Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs biopic set for October 2015 release

Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs film starring Michael Fassbender has been scheduled for October 9 release.

The Universal Pictures' film, which stars Michael as the Apple genius, is being helmed by 'Slumdog Millionaire' and '128 Hours' director Danny Boyle from a script by 'The Social Network's Aaron Sorkin, Deadline.com reported.

                          

Scott Rudin is producing along with Mark Gordon, Film 360's Guymon Casady and Christian Colson. The film, which is based on the Walter Isaacson biography, is set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac and the center of the digital revolution.

While Fassbender plays Jobs, Kate Winslet will portray former Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, with Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, and Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley. Katherine Waterston portrays Jobs' ex-girlfriend Chrisann Brennan, and Michael Stuhlbarg plays Andy Hertzfeld, one of the original members of the Apple Macintosh development team.
Other film that would be opening that time will be Warner Bros/New Line comedy reboot 'Vacation', Disney's 'The Finest Hours' and Fox's Halle Berry thriller 'Kidnap'.

Vote for AAP, tweets Mamata Banerjee

In a surprise move, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday urged the people of Delhi to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. "My request to all of you in Delhi to please vote for AAP," she tweeted. "For the greater need of the country and development in Delhi."

                           

The AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party are the main contenders for power in Saturday's election for the 70-member Delhi assembly.  

On Wednesday, the Left parties announced their support to AAP and asked their supporters to vote for Arvind Kejriwal.

"15 seats are being contested jointly by Left parties in the Delhi polls. Rest of the 55 seats, our party has decided that it will ask our party members and voters to vote for the AAP. Most of the other left parties are also of the same view," CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters in New Delhi.

Rahat Ali replaces injured Junaid in Pakistan squad

Pakistan have called up tall left-arm paceman Rahat Ali to replace the injured Junaid Khan in their World Cup squad.

Rahat, 26, who has been a regular in the Test team since 2012 having taken 31 wickets in 11 matches, has played just a single one-day international way back in 2012 in Sri Lanka without taking a wicket.

"Rahat has been included in the World Cup squad on the recommendation of touring chief selector Moin Khan," a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said on Thursday.

                            

The official said the PCB had already sent a request to the technical committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the replacement since Junaid was declared unfit for the tournament that begins on February 14 in New Zealand and Australia.

Junaid, who has been a leading performer for his country in recent times, missed out on the World Cup after picking up a hamstring injury during training on the eve of the team's departure for New Zealand late last month.

Junaid was named in Pakistan's squad last month after he showed a remarkable return to form after recovering from a knee injury that kept him out for nearly four months.

The PCB official said that Bilawal Bhatti, who was sent as a replacement for the series in New Zealand after the injury to Junaid, would be returning home.

Bilawal had a nightmarish match against New Zealand this week in the second one-dayer in which he conceded 93 runs.

Pakistan are already without their seasoned offspinner Saeed Ajmal for the World Cup after he was suspended from bowling by the ICC last September for an illegal action.

Shatrughan Sinha praises AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, calls him a good man

Just two days to go for Delhi polls, but Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal seems to be getting support from unexpected corners. Moments after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday urged the people of Delhi to vote for AAP, BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha has too joined the bandwagon in AAP's praise.

                              


"Arvind Kejriwal is a good man, and AAP's prospects are bright," Sinha said, adding "Everyone is talking about AAP, newspapers are flooded with them, TV channels are discussing them, means that they are popular."
He said, "Fight in Delhi is between Kiran Bedi, who has a clean image and has been a good officer, and Arvind Kejriwal, who too has a clean image."
The negative campaigning that I've been observing in Delhi politics is unfortunate, we must not indulge in mud-slinging, the leader was quoted as saying.
Comparing Bedi with BJP leader Harsh Vardhan, he however said, "Harsh Vardhan would have been a better choice for Delhi CM candidate."

Novak Djokovic beats Andy Murray to win fifth Australian Open title

Novak Djokovic won his fifth Australian Open title and extended Andy Murray's misery at Melbourne Park by beating the Scotsman 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-0 in the final Sunday.

Murray has now been a losing finalist four times here, losing twice previously to Djokovic in 2011 and 2013 and to Roger Federer in 2010. Djokovic is a perfect 5-for-5 in Australian Open finals and has eight Grand Slam titles.

Djokovic swung momentum in a close match with a service break in the eighth game of the third set, winning four straight points. When he took a 4-0 lead in the last set, he smacked his fist hard against his chest in celebration.

At the end of the match, Djokovic threw his racket into the crowd at Rod Laver Arena.

Roy Emerson, the only other man with five or more Australian titles, was in the crowd and Djokovic acknowledged the presence of the six-time champion.

"I'm so grateful to be standing here as a champion for the fifth time, and to be in the elite group of players - Roy Emerson, Rod Laver and all the legends of our sport," Djokovic said.

Murray sat slumped over in his chair after the match, awaiting the presentations, and once again received the runner-up plate instead of the trophy.

"I had amazing support again here," Murray said. "It's been my most consistent Grand Slam of my career. I haven't been quite able to win, but the support I've received here has been amazing. I'll try and come back next year and hopefully have a slightly different outcome in the final."

Djokovic faced three break points in the third game of the opening set but saved them all, twice coming to the net, including on game point, to hold and take a 2-1 lead. He broke Murray in the next game, but Murray got back on serve when he broke Djokovic in the seventh game.

Djokovic served for the first set after breaking Murray in the eighth game, but Murray broke back. After that game, Djokovic had a trainer attend to this right thumb.

                                

He double-faulted to open the tiebreaker but then, after Murray took a 2-1 lead, won five of the next six points to regain control. He clinched the set when Murray netted a backhand service return.
In the second set, Djokovic saved a set point in the 10th game and Murray saved three break points in the 11th before it went to the tiebreaker. Sixth-seeded Murray dominated the breaker to lead 6-2, securing four set points before clinching it on Djokovic's serve.
The second set was delayed for about five minutes after the seventh game when a court invader protesting Australia's refugee policies was removed by security after stepping on to the court. Other spectators in the stadium unfurled a political banner.
Djokovic broke Murray's serve in the eighth game of the third set, winning four straight points, prompting the Scottish player to throw his racket and yell repeatedly into his towel. The crowd booed Murray's display.
There was a bigger cheer for Djokovic when the introductions were made, but plenty of Scottish flags in the stands. Some Serbian fans yelled "Adje Nole" - Serbian for Come on Nole, which is Djokovic's nickname.
Before the match began, Andy Murray's fiancee, Kim Sears, caused a stir. She was dressed in an oversized T-shirt with a message that poked fun at the widespread attention paid to her use of colorful language during Murray's semifinal win over Tomas Berdych.
Rather than shy away from the issue, Sears' T-shirt for the final showed a sense of humor. It read: "Parental Advisory Explicit Content."

All-round Maxwell powers Australia to emphatic title victory

Perth: Glenn Maxwell produced a stellar all-round performance and Mitchell Johnson returned to terrorise England as Australia clinched the one-day tri-series with an emphatic 112-run victory over their Ashes rivals on Sunday.

Barely two weeks before the World Cup, the hosts proved their batting depth to recover from 60-4 and post 278-8 with Maxwell (95) and Mitchell Marsh (60) rebuilding the innings before James Faulkner`s late assault.

A rejuvenated Johnson, rested in the group games, then mowed down England top order on a bouncy WACA track, dismissing James Taylor, Moeen Ali and captain Eoin Morgan, who left a ball and watched in horror as it pegged back his off-stump.

Maxwell followed up his batting heroics with bowling figures of 4-46 to go with the sharp catch he took to send back Taylor as England collapsed for 166 in 39.1 overs.

Ravi Bopara top scored for the visitors but his 33 runs were of little significance in an abject batting collapse.

Put into bat, Australia were reeling at 60 for four in the 18th over but Maxwell found an able ally in Marsh and the duo added 141 runs in 23.2 overs to prop up the innings.

The hosts lost opener Aaron Finch even before they could open their account and David Warner became James Anderson`s second victim in the seventh over.

In-form Steve Smith, however, batted confidently until off-spinner Ali exhibited his newly-developed habit of claiming crucial breakthroughs.

Smith returned having contributed 40 of Australia`s 60 runs at that stage but the Maxwell-Marsh partnership allayed the fears of a batting capitulation with some aggressive cricket.

Maxwell displayed his wide array of shots -- both conventional and cheeky -- in a belligerent knock, bringing up his ninth fifty with a reverse paddle that raced to the boundary.

The right-hander hit four boundaries in a Chris Woakes over before falling to Stuart Broad in the next, while Marsh was run out soon after, paying the price for a late decision to go for a second run.

This was the third time Maxwell had fallen in the 90s but Faulkner continued the assault on the English bowlers by smashing four sixes, three in the same Woakes over and the other from the final delivery to bring up his fifty in just 24 balls.

Woakes bled 89 runs in his wicketless 10 overs, while Stuart Broad claimed 3-55.                             



                          

Australia have been outstanding in the entire series. They are gathering steam ahead of the World Cup. Warner and Smith got tons, Finch, Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh spent some quality time in the middle. Michael Clarke scored a few runs in a domestic game. The only concern with the bat is the form of Bailey, who might have to make way once Clarke returns. The bowling was already looking strong, but with the return of Johnson it just got bolstered. Starc was superb with the new ball, Cummins bowled with a lot of pace and Hazlewood was tight in his line and lengths. Maxwell and Doherty provide the spin options. All-in-all Australia look the side to beat in the World Cup.

Martina Hingis, Leander Paes win Australian Open mixed doubles title

                                

Martina Hingis won her first Grand Slam title since returning from retirement, teaming with Leander Paes of India to win the Australian Open mixed doubles title with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kristina Mladenovic of France and Daniel Nestor of Canada.

With Paes serving for the match, Hingis, a five-time singles champion, hit a hard overhead to Mladenovic, who netted a half volley from near the baseline.

Hingis, who won three singles and six doubles titles at Melbourne Park, returned to the tour to play doubles in 2013 and teamed with the 41-year-old Paes for the first time at the Australian Open.

Hingis, 34, won the 2006 Australian Open mixed doubles title with Manesh Bhupathi, who was Paes' former longtime doubles partner.
