Former Union minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is expected to leave an ayurvedic hospital in his home state of Kerala on Friday. Delhi Police served a notice to Tharoor on Thursday asking him to join investigation into the mysterious death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
Tharoor had alleged last year that the Delhi Police had threatened his domestic help to name him as the killer of his wife.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday said he was "stunned" by the Delhi Police's claim that his wife Sunanda Pushkar was murdered by poisoning. The former Union minister also demanded "comprehensive" investigation into Pushkar's death.
"I am stunned to hear that the Delhi Police have filed a case of murder against unknown persons in the demise of my late wife Sunanda. Needless to say, I am anxious to see this case is investigated thoroughly and continue to assure the Police of my full co-operation," a statement released by Tharoor said.
"Although we never thought of any foul play in the death of my wife, we all want that a comprehensive investigation be conducted and that the unvarnished truth should come out. In the meantime, I join all members of Sunanda's family in asking for full information about the basis on which the Police have come to this conclusion," the statement said.
However, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi has denied any pressure after a letter written by Tharoor surfaced alleging that police officers pressurised his domestic help into framing Mr Tharoor in the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
"I have spoken to the police officers regarding these concerns, and they told me there is no such thing," Mr Bassi said.
According to reports, Delhi Police may also add additional charge under Section 328, which pertains to causing hurt by means of poison.
Pushkar was found dead in a five-star hotel room in New Delhi on January 17, 2014. The hotel room where she was found dead was revisited by police and forensic experts recently. The suite had remained sealed and was opened for the first time since the incident for the visit.
